City #5: Galveston
Located just an hour from Houston, Galveston is the ideal location for the beach babe and historian alike. Famed for it's Victorian architecture while maintaining its laid-back beach vibe, Galveston could be your destination wedding go-to. Whether you are looking for a sunset, beachfront wedding with your toes in the sand, or a more chic ambiance, Galveston has many options. With 32 miles of coastline, there are practically limitless options for your beachy wedding, from utilizing one of Galveston's public beaches to looking into waterfront options at the many Seawall establishments.
For the chic and sophisticated bride looking to pay tribute to the history of Galveston Island, options like the Hotel Galvez are sure to wow guests. If it was good enough for the likes of Frank Sinatra and multiple U.S. presidents, hey, it might be a fit for your wedding! Other island favorites include Moody Gardens and The San Luis, just to name a few of the hotel choices in town.
City #4: Gruene
We love a sleek, modern affair, but we've got love for our rustic brides too. Gruene is a German-Texan town located along the Guadalupe River, about one hour North East of San Antonio. Famed for being home to Gruene Hall, Texas' oldest dance hall, this quaint southern town has much to offer for couples and wedding guests alike. The quaint downtown area is filled with rustic late 1800s to early 1900s general stores turned antique shops and eclectic cafes and restaurants. Your guests are sure to be entertained while dining on chicken-fried steak, burgers and ribs, while listening to some authentic Texas country music at the historic Gristmill restaurant.
Ceremony options are plentiful and diverse, though all with a rustic, hill country element. Options include sprawling ranches and luxury farmhouses, as well as charming castle or estates. Yes, you read that right - Gruene, Texas boasts enchanting castles on their list of wedding options. No matter your choices, this town exudes rustic charm and is an easy choice for a Texas destination wedding.
City #3: Forth Worth
Forth Worth might be the largest in population of the cities included on this list, but still fits the description of being a quaint Texas city. Located less than an hour outside of Dallas, this city is a cowboy's wonderland. The Fort Worth Stockyards are a must-see when in Fort Worth and will make your wedding guests feel like they've traveled back in time with the wild west feel. With daily cattle drives showcasing longhorns parading down the street to large dance halls and delicious BBQ, this country destination is sure to keep your guests full and happy.
For a rustic chic ambiance, we highly recommend the Hotel Drover, located right off of Mule Alley, walking distance from the popular shops and restaurants in the area. This classy new hotel is the ideal location for a ceremony, reception and for a weekend getaway for your guests. This hotel tends to book quickly and is on the upscale side in terms of cost, though worth every penny. Other options include a variety of historic options, chapels and cozy venues with wood touches and delicate chandelier accents.
City #2: Terlingua
Truly one of the most peaceful and serene places I've traveled to, uniquely its own, where life just feels that little bit easier. Terlingua, Texas is tucked in the middle of mountainous terrain outside of the famous Big Bend National Park. Located along the Rio Grande, just a hop, skip and a jump from Mexico, this mining town turned ghost town is one of the most unique choices for a destination wedding or elopement in the Lonestar State. Big Bend National Park is the epitome of wide open spaces where you can have a ceremony with a scenic view. Starry nights are a staple in this Far West Texas town, making it a rustic meets romantic dream spot. Lodging is limited in the area, but popular options include Basecamp Terlingua, with the star-gazing, panoramic view bubbles, as well as tipis, retro trailers and more.
Terlingua is less than a two hour drive from Marfa, Texas, home of the iconic Prada Marfa and what some may consider an artist's paradise. Wedding guests are certain to immerse themselves in art, experience Texas charm, while enjoying breathtaking views and a little UFO history. If an intimate desert wedding wasn't already at the forefront of your mind, I hope it is now.
City #1: Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg, or as I like it call it, the Napa of Texas, is hands down one of the most fun and yet quaint towns in Texas. Another German-settled town, uniquely its own that has a little bit of everything in the area and of course, a lot of charm. From hiking to antiquing, this hill country town has something for everyone and is sure to please all of your invited guests. Some of the top attractions in Fredericksburg are the beautiful wineries, many making lovely options for a garden or outdoor wedding. Wineries, bed and breakfasts and beautifully decorated Airbnbs are prevalent in this walkable town, making it an easy trip for both you and your guests. This Texas town is about a 90 minute drive from Austin and in the springtime makes for a spectacular drive amongst the Texas wildflowers.
